Founded in 1969 on the premise that Rome itself is an ideal classroom, The American University of Rome (AUR) is the oldest degree-granting American university in Rome.

AUR blends the best of two worlds: American practical know-how, technological capability and career preparation, while giving due prominence to the European and Italian classical tradition of the humanities and liberal arts.
Students and Faculty
AUR is home to a highly diverse student body representing over forty countries. Today the University enrolls some 450/500 students each semester. Students study in small, interactive classes with a faculty dedicated to student learning. At the same time, AUR students enjoy the myriad benefits of life in this uniquely stimulating city. Many students find that their total AUR to be life transforming. Average Job Placement rates: 74% of our students find jobs within the first year of graduation.
Just like our students, our multi-faceted faculty comes from all over the world. Accustomed to students from similar background, our professors respect different points of view, ideas and experiences. They use this intellectual diversity to add life to abstract concepts. Our professors excel as scholars and practitioners, fusing their important professional qualifications with the ability to develop your intellectual and decision-making skills. When applicable, many professors integrate the city in which we are located into lessons using on-site visits.
Campus
The university is an urban campus and the compound is composed of 5 nearby buildings. The main campus is formed of two buildings, an auditorium and a spacious garden. Building A hosts administrative and faculty offices, student services and the main computer lab whilst building B has the bulk of the classrooms, laboratories and faculty offices. Evans’ Hall, a liberty villa of 1920, is the site of the library, student lounges and a beautiful outside garden. Carini 23, a five story building of the ‘70s designed by the famous Italian Architect Paolo Portoghesi, is the location of design studios, faculty offices, and the Batista Multimedia Laboratory, a state of the art lab for film production.

Location
Overlooking the historical center, the university is located in a prestigious area of Rome on the crest of the Janiculum, Rome’s highest hill. With its own garden of Roman pines it offers a spectacular view of Rome and the surrounding hills. The campus is near the renowned American Academy of Rome and close by the Villa Sciarra and Villa Doria Pamphili, two large city parks. The area also hosts diplomatic residences, embassies and embassy residences, and several international academies. The neighborhood surrounding AUR offers a full range of amenities including restaurants, shops, cafes and an outdoor market. The AUR campus is a short 15-minute walk from the historical Trastevere district.

(267-284-5000) The Middle States Commission on Higher Education is an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
The American University of Rome is licensed by the State of Delaware Department of Education to award Associate and Bachelor’s Degrees.
The American University of Rome is registered as a legal entity with the Rome Tribunal and is authorized to operate in Italy by the Ministry of Universities and Scientific and Technological Research.
